3A–Your Entrepreneurship Story

My Entrepreneurship Story

In high school, I was Vice President of the Future Business Leaders of America charter at my school. The main goal of our club was to learn the various aspects of how to start a business (financing, marketing, managing, etc.), and then develop a business as a team. As Vice President, I was responsible for ensuring we were on track to developing and creating a successful product/business by the end of the year, which was the time of our case competition. As a team, we had to think outside of the box to create a product that was not seen on the market. Additionally, we had no experience running a business whatsoever. It took weeks of brainstorming, many failed attempts, and a lot of support, but we were able to create an application prototype for iPhone. The app helped users locate intramural games happening in our city. Additionally, it allowed users to start new games, create teams, and compete with one another all through the app. The idea was to help promote active lifestyles and make it easier for individuals in the community to come together and spend their free time being active. In this situation, I had to think like an entrepreneur. I had to brainstorm ideas that had never been thought of, plan the logistics of our product, and bring our idea to fruition. It was a difficult endeavor, yet when we finally had our final product it made all the hard work worth it.

Why I Enrolled in ENT3003

I enrolled in ENT3003 because I wanted to learn about a sector of business that I knew nothing about. Coming into college, I never considered how important it was to have an entrepreneur mind set, and how being able to think outside of the box would benefit me in any future career I pursue. I hope to learn in this class how to make tangible differences in my life to best maximize the opportunities presented to me. Additionally, I hope to learn ways to think creatively and ways to think outside of the box in any sector of business.

  1. Hey Shaina,

The app sounds really cool and innovative. Where I'm from, we didn't have any IM games that our city could really engage in. Your organization sounds a lot like DECA, which honestly experience in either of those organizations is critical towards gaining an idea and vision for what one wants to truly engage in, regardless of their passion. What really resonated with me though is the amount of roadblocks that you and your team hit, I really feel to learn, one must hit rock bottom and start from the ground up to truly build something successful.

  2. Hi Shaina,
I feel like your experience as vice president of FBLA, especially given the adversity you faced, gives you a great basis as an entrepreneur in that class. That app sounds awesome! I applaud you for expanding your knowledge bounds by taking a course in which you knew nothing about. I am in the same boat not initially realizing the importance of thinking like an entrepreneur so hopefully this class can help us both.

  3. Shaina,

You make that organization sound really beneficial, and it is fantastic that you served as Vice President. I wish that my high school had a club like this one, I think that is a great way for young students to learn more about entrepreneurship, and how business works. Your app idea also sounds interesting, I could see myself using something like that.
